The Rose

The softest petals have bruised most severely
My pounding chamber of emotion.
Delicate are these
So gentle in touch as much as they are
Charming to the windows of the soul.
Look closer and you'll discover
The challenge of its blades--
Anxious to see
Red, satisfying droplets upon
The one who takes a chance.
Even so does the sweet perfume fragrance
Enhance our first impression,
Leaving room enough for hope.
Beautiful, it may seem, yet
The soft, silky petals are gradually
Falling, soon to leave a bare stem
With only thorns as company.
The once fully bloomed rose Has now become only pain.
